Not so long ago

I am going to tell you a story that you probably have never heard

about a girl with dreams that could fly like a bird

she could sing like Martina and belt out a tune

and even sang to Carrie always at noon

far into the pastures she would go with her dog

and sit there for hours singing in the fog

she can't go back to her place anymore though

its been lost with the time

and now she has trouble even saying a line

she has grown now she can tell by the clothes that she wears

and all the many colors she has put into her hair

her dreams are now hiding

so no one can see

because her voice has been silenced by animosity

but every once in a while when she's sure no ones around

her songs come back with that country sound

and reminds her of a day when she could live with out shame

and the fear of people to blame
